So I haven't kept up with this, but it seems like every time school starts anew, I drop everything and try to focus on schoolwork.
Over the summer, I want to try to make arts and crafts for myself, and hopefully I'll remember to log it here. :)

In the meantime, here are some things that were made during the school year!

Berries!

One of my absolute favorite things about the summer is the plethora of BERRIES! My mom and I went berry picking yesterday. We picked, ate, and in my case, got bitten by bugs.

A Fairy

A fairy I made for a fairy swap.

She is polymer clay with a wire armature under so she's poseable. I curled and attached mohair for her hair. Her eyes are green+gold glass paint and she's shimmery but you can't tell from the pictures. Her dress is made of lace, ribbon, and a fake flower, and her sweater is crocheted from green yarn.

I always wanted to try making something like this and I'm glad I got the chance to do so.

In transit

Ahh I've been so busy lately that I haven't had too much time for crafting!

Actually, that's not true, I've started some crafting but I don't seem to have enough hours in the day to finish them! Ahh!

I took some snapshots of things in art transit.

More flower ladies! We had really hot dry weather so I picked these right off the ground in my dad's garden!

And lastly, lots and lots of papier mache!

CAMP.

So I started working camp today. Ohhhh boy. I have about 20-25 7&8 year olds. It was fun but the school basically has no ac so of course I was sweating like a faucet. I'm going to have to invent a fan that follows me around so that I can stay cool or something.

Well, I got picked for duck duck goose twice and we went to the art room twice to make stuff, yay! The kids can be kind of rowdy, but hopefully things will settle down a bit after the first week. I'm SO TIRED but I'm also happy. I've done work with kids within a classroom, and this is totally different, but I'm really glad to get this experience.

I'm leaving you with this:

This is a conversation that I had with some kids.
kid: how old are you?
me: 24.
kids: you’re old!
me: i know, i’m so old!!
kids: do you have a boyfriend??
me: no, why?
kid: OLD PEOPLE ARE ALL SUPPOSED TO HAVE BOYFRIENDS!!

speechless.

Ah, simple.

Well I tested out the new design aspect of Blogger and I like it! It's simple and easy to use! I changed the layout to a nice summery orange and now you can comment on posts, yay! :D

I don't really have any projects to post today, but I have been working on things, swear! I'm an RA at school this coming fall so I've been making decorations for that. They're secret for now but my hallways going to be monster themed. (of course)

For the past few days, I've been absorbed by Tumblr. It's a little like blog+ffffound and I love it!

Well, that's where I leave you today. Ta ta! <3

Some Crafts

Hello again!

Last week, I randomly made some paper rings from some old books I have lying around just for crafts. I layers strips of paper in a ring shape around my finger and I glued a cool sentence around it. I then varished the top so that it would be sturdy and waterproof to an extent.

Fun, right? I made a good few of them for fun.
Remember the last post when I said "set a whole bunch of things in motion so that I could be creative"? One of those things was this great book called Wreck This Journal by Keri Smith. It's really awesome, it's a book/journal with ways of wrecking the journal in a creative way. Check out this flickr group for some examples!

I took the pressed foliage and randomly decided to make little fairies!

I kind of suck at this blogging thing, huh?

I used to be so good at blogging. But my summer's been so busy; mostly in a good way. I've had job training for summer camp. It's been eating a lot of my time, but I'm so excited for camp to start! I have 2nd and 3rd graders which is my ideal age to teach. I've also been watching a whooole lot of the World Cup.

Right before summer ended, I didn't think I'd be busy at all, so I set a whole bunch of things in motion so that I could be creative and not encounter a giant artistic block when I went back to school. I now think maybe I overdid it, but at least I'm making stuff! I'll have to post some of those things when I have the time.

Friday the 18th, I went to an Etsy craft party and it was really cool! It was in DC and I gave a demo, along with 2 others. An Etsian owns a diner in DC so it was held there and we had a special deal on "craftinis". I made 60 party favors, but of course only 20 people showed up. It's ok, it means I have stuff to send out as freebies and maybe sell.

There was a drawing because Etsy sent over some stuff like art supplies and tee shirts. I won some porcelain markers and paints which is really awesome because I was considering buying some! I'm currently experimenting with them!

This was during a collage robot demo which was really awesome.

This was what I made, but the photo's so blurry! It's made out of junk like soda cans, buttons, wire spiral stuff from notebooks, a key, bottlecap, and screws.

It was a really fun night! Yay Etsy!

hello!

Hi there!

I haven't made a post in a few days just because I've been busy doing so many things! I have made things that I will post another time. The weather here's so hot & humid; it makes me want to laze about instead of getting things done!

I went to Michael's today for the first time in months to be pleasantly surprised. They've changed a lot of their stock for the better and I eagerly grabbed stuff off their shelves for future crafting!

Tomorrow, my friend & I are hanging out and baking something. If it turns out right, I'll have to post pictures! If it doesn't, well...we'll just pretend it never happened.

Lastly, I've been told you can't comment on my posts! :( I haven't had sufficient time to try to fix it, but I'll try to get that done as soon as I can!

A Spectrum of Color

Today I saw a rainbow in a car's sideview mirror. It was just the way the sun hit the car, reflected off the mirror, and revealed all the colors that hide inside light. I think rainbows are a little bit of a miracle. Sure, I know the science behind it, but it's still amazing! I remember seeing my first rainbow in the sky and being overjoyed at the age of 4 or 5.

Anyways, before I go off rambling about rainbows, I decided to look through what my favorite website for all things handmade had to offer on the subject! (images are clickable; they'll take you to the listing)

Isn't this painting amazing? I think I could stare at it for days! The other paintings in her store are all so lovely!

These earrings are called " Catch my breath in between the rainbow", and aptly so. I'm a sucker for wire wrapping and earrings--add in a touch of rainbow, and you know I'm head over heels for it! I really did have to catch my breath when I saw these.

Oh my goodness. Awwwwww. Just awww. I'm also a sucker for adorable babies. awwwwwwww!!

This sweater coat is so neat!! It's made of upcycled sweaters and is made of magic!! Maybe not magic, but it sure seems like it!

When I first saw these, I thought they were from polymer clay canes. They're actually GLASS which at least doubles the wow factor!

Isn't she sweet? I love the whimsy and creativity behind it. Plus, all the natural fibers are " from a flock of happy sheep on Grand View Farm", which I think is really exciting.

Aw! I love this mini print. It's just the right combination of retro and modern, and greyscale and color.

I hope you enjoyed all the rainbows! :)

Scavenger Collages

I have way too much arts & crafts stuff. In an effort to get rid of some of it & to make myself make things, I'm pulling out random things and making collages.

I want to try a daily thing but probably not happening.

Scavenger Collage #1 Ingredients
Ingredients:
doodles
watercolor doodles
beetle wing
half of a bleeding heart (the flower of course ;])
catalog cutouts
part of a playing card
plasticy stuff

(see, even that list is way too much stuff)

Scavenger Collage #1 Leftovers
Leftovers. (items that didn't get used)

Scavenger Collage #2 Ingredients
Ingredients:
cigar box label
magazine cutout
watercolor doodle
a thing that was on top of an etsy promo pack i received a long time ago
the letter N

Scavenger Collage #2 Leftovers

All the ingredients are scavenged and pulled out at random so that I can compose something surprising; not something planned.
Feel free to try it; it's a lot of fun!! :)
